Tadpole larvae in the egg

tadpole from Jennifer Jilks on Vimeo.
A tadpole is the larval stage in the life cycle of an amphibian, particularly that of a frog or toad. They are usually wholly aquatic, though some species have tadpoles that are terrestrial.
Here are photos, slowing our frog pond, the eggs, and the larvae hatching.
I believe this is a tree frog tadpole. They are the only ones around the pond right now.

interesting! I used to play with tadpoles when I was a wee little girl. I love the way they switch their tails.

No worries this year. The spring peepers started in two evenings ago - full throttle! I could also hear another species of frog, but exactly what it is I don't know yet. For some reason last year there was nothing in the bog, and I only spotted a single leopard frog late in the summer. No toads at all, no green or bull frogs. Very strange for this area. Perhaps due to the lack of snow? All seems well now. ATB!
